Wedding of Edmund & Jen Part I

Posted by | Posted in Photography, Weddings | Posted on 03-09-2009

Jen and I have been long time friends. We knew each other for many, many, many years. We used to go to the same tuition, attend the same church, the same school, the same college and now, I had the privilege both attend her wedding and at the same time, be the official photographer on this joyous occasion. Since I’m always lost for words when it comes to blogging (Gosh, I’ve gotta hire a copywriter soon!) I would let the photos do the talking.

This was actually my dream wedding car… too bad I couldn’t afford one and I didn’t know anyone who had one. Good on ya, Edmund!

Casual Fun with Jun Kit & Mei Sze in Melbourne

Posted by | Posted in International, Photography, Portraits, Pre-Weddings, Weddings | Posted on 20-08-2009

I have a feeling that I would be really packed for the rest of the week, so I thought I would schedule this update. Jun Kit & Mei Sze decided to have a casual shoot the day after the pre-wedding and we headed down to Brighton among other places to do some casual portraiture that day. The weather, again, was very kind to us. It was reported to rain with overcast clouds but thank God, at every location that we went, the sky was bright and sunny.

I’ll let the rest of the photos do the talking for themselves. Enjoy!

Jun Kit & Mei Sze are such a wonderful couple. I’m glad to know them as first my clients, and then more importantly, as friends. Jun Kit and Mei Sze it’s great to have known the both of you and we would cherish the moments we’ve spent together. I can imagine if we spent a day together, we would be talking non-stop about things that we love. Thanks again for opening your homes to us. You guys were fantabulous. We’re sorry that we can’t be your photographers on your wedding day but I am sure you guys would rock the world!

Over the course of those few days, we got to know the both of them better. So much so, that I can’t help but find it difficult at times to visualise how I could take romantic, sexy, classy photos of the both of them. Each time I have to ask myself if that’s really them. Well, I’ve decided to post this photo last because after knowing them for a few days now, I think that this last photo really describes them the best.

Pre-Wedding of Jun Kit & Mei Sze in Melbourne Part I

Posted by | Posted in International, Photography, Portraits, Pre-Weddings, Weddings | Posted on 16-08-2009

What an absolute joy it is to shoot a pre-wedding in Melbourne! The weather was cold and windy but that also means I won’t be sweating like crazy like I normally would in tropical Singapore! The weather was kind to us because it was reported to rain for the most parts of the weekends but when it came to the time of the pre-wedding session, it was bright and sunny with no rain clouds in sight. The heavens were upon us! Jun Kit and I were college mates back in the day but we sort of lost contact. But thanks to the wonders of the Internet, Friendster and Facebook, we managed to keep in contact. This has been months in planning and thanks to my lovely clients, they’ve arranged everything for us from the moment we left Singapore to the time we started shooting. The schedule and venues were all planned, prepared and I didn’t have to worry one bit. Oooh, how I love my clients! So enjoy the photos from the day shots that we took that day, more to come later!

First up, shots taken from the Parliament building. A famous stop for weddings and pre-weddings alike. I think I saw like another 3-4 wedding couples that day. This place is packed with tourist. I’m glad I manage to take a few shots here minus the crowd. ;)

Melbourne City is famous for their tram rides and yellow cab taxis like NY. Just before we left the parliament, I manage to capture both in the same shot. ;)

Mei Sze looking gorgeous walking down the main shopping district area. By the way, she was in the middle of the tram tracks, talk about dangerous!

Melbourne is filled with graffiti walls. What’s a pre-wedding in Melbourne if you don’t pay a visit to these famous locations?

Melbourne, the garden state. Surely there’s lots and lots and lots of gardens to be found there.

Australia Pre-Wedding Preview

Posted by | Posted in International, Photography, Portraits, Pre-Weddings, Weddings | Posted on 15-08-2009

Hi guys!

I know, I know, it’s been a while! I’ve been away in Melbourne, Australia for a week and sad to say, I haven’t been able to connect to the Internet much. Thus, the slow update. I’ve been busy catching up with much needed sleep, work and editing photos. I promise to have more photos up very soon.

At the meantime, here is one photo that we took in Melbourne during the Pre-Wedding shoot.

Langkawi Retreat with Wedding Story Part I

Posted by | Posted in Personal, Photography, Travel | Posted on 29-07-2009

langkawitrip_002

Thanks to my friends from Wedding Story, my wife and I were invited to an all-expense paid retreat in Langkawi together with the Wedding Story team. Haha, well, it was not entirely “all-expense” but I it sounded nice when I typed it :P .  That said, Wedding Story chipped in on the accommodation for us and that was truly awesome! It is my first time to Langkawi, so thanks guys for being such a great sport and for inviting me and making it a reality. Now I can say, “Hey, I’ve been to Langkawi you know!”.

I can’t say enough but the people at Wedding Story and Integricity are a bunch of awesome people. They are professional, friendly, fun and most importantly, they are fantabulously crazy and fun, just like me! I always believe in teamwork, and as a professional photographer, I can’t work alone and it helps to have close friends in the industry that can support you and be a constant encouragement to you. It pays to have strong relationships with the people you work with and I got to say, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves there.

From the moment we landed, we basically had a fun time hanging out around the hotel, went shopping, played some water sports, took “professional” photos for each other for FREE (yes, it pays to have photographer friends!), went for a full body massage together. It was a time of relaxation and at the same time, we got to catch up with everyone. Since I’m based in Singapore, I hardly have time to meet up with anyone whenever I am in Malaysia.

If you have colleagues, partners or just buddies that are like-minded, do spend time together, I highly recommend that you either go on a road trip or a short vacation together.

Oh, one very important thing that happened in Langkawi that I have to share… I got a brand new spanking camera! Thanks to Joseph Siew and Grace for helping me out. I was so excited, because I finally got my hands on a compact camera, the Canon G10. Well, it’s not soooo compact but hey, it’s a great camera that produces great images!

All the shots taken in this post were from my new compact camera, the Canon G10. I’ll blog more about it later.

Lastly, enjoy the clip below by Kee Sitt from Wedding Story. He did a great job compiling our activities in it. Best of all, he did not use a professional video camera, but a consumer camera, the Panasonic TZ7. After watching the video, I feel like giving up my Canon G10 and go out and buy myself one of them Panasonics. :(

Disclaimer: OK, after being “ratted out” by Mark Leo, I have to say that the Canon G10 is not mine! It belongs to my wife. :) Yes, my wife had a long discussion about it, as she wanted something small that could fit into her bag. But I reasoned with her that the Canon G10 is a GREAT camera! Yada yada… anyways, long story short, after much persuasion (and pestering) from me, she caved, and gave in to my request. Hehe… so, the Canon G10 belongs to my wife since she paid for it… (which will be in my ThinkTank Airport AirStream bag most of the time.. hehehehe).

FAQ: How do you store your CF Cards & Batteries

Posted by | Posted in FAQ, Photography, Technology, Weddings | Posted on 25-07-2009

Hey,

I should be on my way to Langkawi by the time you read this. I’ll be having a helluva time with the Wedding Story team. They’ve been a great sport by inviting my wife and I on a retreat with them. I’m sure I’ll be enjoying myself there, soaking my feet in the pool and enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Langkawi. Honestly, I’ve never been there before, so I’ve no idea how it looks like.

For today, I’ll be posting a FAQ video post. I thought I’d just share a few things I’ve picked up from various photographers. Thanks guys for sharing all these knowledge with me and I plan to impart to others as and when I can. So, the question is how do I store my CF Cards and my batteries? Enjoy!

Ok, since I’m not a pro in Nikon gear, I must have mistaken it with some other battery pack that Nikon uses. Anyways, the SB900s uses 4 batteries like the Canon flashes. Good to know when and if I switch to Nikon. I know some people would be delighted if I do. ;)

The Power of the Unexpected

Posted by | Posted in Personal, Photography, Weddings | Posted on 24-07-2009

Thanks to Jon Low who RT’ed this from someone else wee early in the morning. I was still dreaming about it when I woke up this morning. I guess it’s all over the twittersphere now but I thought I’d just add it here. This has got to be the coolest wedding couple ever! I went to the link from the tweet and it says, “Watch it. You might cry. You may get up and dance. You may break into instantaneous giggle fits. You may even be slightly horrified.” What about you, would you laugh, dance or cry? Watch the video.

I teared a little at the end. This has got to be the coolest wedding video I’ve seen for a long long time. How I wished all weddings are like this, but I know everyone has their own preference and being the wacky me, I love the unexpected. That’s my code. My motto. My life. I love it! ;-) Well, if you have ideas that is out of this world, some dying fantasy (wedding related only, puh-lease!), or an unrealised dream that you would want to on your wedding day, feel free to contact me and we can cook up something unexpected. It’ll be fun, it’ll be exciting and most importantly memorable.

Would you laugh, dance or cry?

That’s entirely up to you.
