My Acceptance into MPA

Posted by | Posted in Personal, Photography, Portraits, Pre-Weddings, Special Projects, Weddings | Posted on 09-04-2010

Hi people! Yes, it’s been a long time since I last updated my blog. Part of the reason being my busy schedule with work. It seems that my busy schedule would not end anytime soon. Recently, I have been busy preparing for my MPA qualification.

I have been accredited with an Associateship (AMPA) in the wedding category from the Master Photographers Association, UK. An associateship is awarded to photographers who demonstrate a great understanding of technique, light, composition, creativity and finesse in the art of professional photography. For more information, visit http://www.thempa.com.

This has been the most grueling experience for me from start to finish. It was a very last minute decision but it was all worthwhile.

It was a great experience and I am truly blessed with the people that I’ve met along the way during my preparation. I’d like to thank Ryan Wong for his invaluable advice and for spending countless hours (occasionally up to wee hours in the morning) coaching me on my final panel. I would not have done it without him. My esteemed judges for your critical and constructive feedback on my panel. I would definitely take it all in and start improving on those areas. My lovely couples because without you, I would not have any images to submit! Thanks for your confidence in choosing me as your preferred photographer.

I would also like to thank all my friends and colleagues who supported me throughout my grading process, Alicia Koh for running around town with me to get my panels completed, Stephen Loh (thanks for the coffee that helped me calm my nerves), Michael Chan (for waking up early and being there for my judging :P ), Chris Woon, Chris Lim, Agnes Tjan, Jonathan Ho, Jonathan Chan, Gerald Goh and the rest who gave physical support on that day. It was indeed a nerve wrecking experience! Not forgetting Edwin Tan, Jon Low, Andy Chin and the rest on twitter for your morale support. To my wonderful wife for her patience and support, I love you! To my Lord and Saviour, Jesus for His unending favour. All I am, is attributed to Him.

Here are a few images that made it to the panel submission.

Posted by | Posted in International, Photography, Pre-Weddings, Weddings | Posted on 17-12-2009

It’s funny how most people are winding down for the holiday season but mine is winding up! It seems that the closer I get to Christmas the busier I am. My apologies for the short post, I’m working flat out everyday for past few weeks and hopefully I’ll have some time left to spend with my family during this Christmas season.

Alright, here’s the 2nd installment to Desmond & Ching Sze’s pre-wedding photos.

Pre-Wedding of Desmond & Ching Sze Part I

Here are the long overdue photos from Desmond & Ching Sze’s Pre-wedding. The reason that I held back posting these photos here is because I wanted to wait till their wedding last weekend. It’s 2am here and I think I’ll probably continue to write a better blog post some time tomorrow when I’m wide awake. Enjoy the photos for now and do remember to comment!

Part II coming soon!

Preview: Desmond & Ching Sze Pre-Wedding

Posted by | Posted in Portraits, Pre-Weddings, Weddings | Posted on 05-11-2009

Hey people!

I had a fantastic weekend shooting Desmond & Ching Sze Pre-wedding in Singapore! It was a challenging day because we were sparring with the weather most of the time. You see, it started out a week prior to the pre-wedding shoot. I was observing the weather forecast and the pattern goes something like this; morning – bright and sunny, afternoon – rain, evening – beautiful evening skies. Perfect! This has been ongoing from Monday to Friday morning when I was all psyched up for the shoot on Saturday. Great, I couldn’t wait! But things took an about turn when I saw grey clouds gathering on Friday evening. Oh no! It started raining!

Sure enough, Saturday was a challenging day, grey and dull skies for most of the morning, afternoon had a hint of sunlight. We did some beautiful casual shots for the morning. I initially thought that we would have clear blue skies for Saturday like the rest of the week prior. I was so confident that I planned out a string out outdoor locations without a backup plan! Hah! BIG mistake! As we were heading out for the evening shoot, I saw the clouds gathering above us as we drove to our first venue. We had to practically race against time (and the rain clouds) for most of the shoot.

By the time we got to the first venue, it was getting really dark. I took a few shots with the couple while Andrew and Mark (who graciously assisted me for that day) were setting up the lights for me. I felt a few raindrops on my face now, and I remembered shouting to Desmond and Ching Sze, “One last shot, guys! One last shot!”, just in case you do not know, that’s my favourite sentence *wink*. The rain was getting heavier now but I insisted that we took “one last shot”. *snap* *snap* *more raindrops* OK, by now, I knew we had to leave, although we only had 30 minutes at that beautiful spot. I told the guys to pack up and head to the car. We started loading the gear into the car when I heard Desmond shouting, “It’s coming! It’s coming!”. I looked with the corner of my eye and I saw a thick grey layer of rain like a curtain moving towards us. “Quick!” We dumped everything into the car boot and jumped into the car and slammed the door shut. BOOM! The rain poured like there was no tomorrow.

This was one of the “last shots” we took before the rain won.

Definitely one of my favourite shots of the day!

Finally, I could tick off one item on my wishlist. To photograph a couple or bride/groom alone, next to a plane. Woohoo!

I had to think of other spots to shoot due to the heavy downpour. I’ll probably post some of those photos later. As the rain hampered most of my plans, I was determined to wait until I could shoot at another wonderful spot. Here is a preview of what is to come.

desmondchingsze_002.jpg

All in all, it was a wonderful day out with friends. The weather did make things a little difficult for me at the beginning but it all soon fade away the moment I look at the photos. Desmond & Ching Sze, thanks for being so patient with me and for putting up with all the impossible requests at times. Would love to show you more photos but that would ruin the surprise for the Ipoh Wedding in December! The rain didn’t stop us and I think, end of the day, the chili and pepper crabs did make a whole lot of difference!

Pre-Wedding of Gerry & Helena in Melbourne

Posted by | Posted in International, Portraits, Pre-Weddings | Posted on 27-08-2009

Gerry & Helena met each other many years ago through a circle of friends. Now, they are working together in a lil’ cafe down in the bustling city of Melbourne. They’ve decided to tie the knot end of the year but unfortunately, I would not be able to make it for their wedding. (My apologies Helena and Gerry, but I do hope I’ve made it up through the photos here!) The day before the pre-wedding shoot, Helena was giving me the low down of the places we would be shooting and I’ve gotta say how much I love them! They sure know what kinda places that I like to shoot in. Oh, how I love this place! Gerry & Helena brought me to this wonderful place tucked somewhere in heart of Melbourne City. It just beautiful! I’m very happy to share this set of photos with you because it’s very close to my heart. So enjoy!

Casual Fun with Jun Kit & Mei Sze in Melbourne

Posted by | Posted in International, Photography, Portraits, Pre-Weddings, Weddings | Posted on 20-08-2009

I have a feeling that I would be really packed for the rest of the week, so I thought I would schedule this update. Jun Kit & Mei Sze decided to have a casual shoot the day after the pre-wedding and we headed down to Brighton among other places to do some casual portraiture that day. The weather, again, was very kind to us. It was reported to rain with overcast clouds but thank God, at every location that we went, the sky was bright and sunny.

I’ll let the rest of the photos do the talking for themselves. Enjoy!

Jun Kit & Mei Sze are such a wonderful couple. I’m glad to know them as first my clients, and then more importantly, as friends. Jun Kit and Mei Sze it’s great to have known the both of you and we would cherish the moments we’ve spent together. I can imagine if we spent a day together, we would be talking non-stop about things that we love. Thanks again for opening your homes to us. You guys were fantabulous. We’re sorry that we can’t be your photographers on your wedding day but I am sure you guys would rock the world!

Over the course of those few days, we got to know the both of them better. So much so, that I can’t help but find it difficult at times to visualise how I could take romantic, sexy, classy photos of the both of them. Each time I have to ask myself if that’s really them. Well, I’ve decided to post this photo last because after knowing them for a few days now, I think that this last photo really describes them the best.

So, continuation from the day session, we decided to head back to Docklands one last time because the weather was so wonderful that day. Look at the sunset!

***Updated 19 Aug***

I guess it must have been the flu that I have been having the past few days that I’m not really thinking straight. Haven’t been able to pen down what I wanted to say and many things have slipped my mind. I’ve gotta slap myself silly for missing this very important note. I think I’ve mentioned that I love my clients but I failed to mention how sweet they were. You see, we were shooting in this hotel and they gave us a pleasant surprise when they told us that we would be staying there for the night. Oh! What a joy! If you look at the decor, you would know that this place is marvelous! Thanks Jun Kit & Mei Sze, we love the room and we had such a good sleep that night (yeah, after 11 hours of shoot, I think Lai Yeen and I were both knackered).

***Updated****

Next up are some casual shoot that we did the next morning! If I haven’t mentioned it before, I’ll mention it again, I love my clients! They brought me out for some great Fish & Chips that day and we took some really really nice casual shots. Here’s one to wet your appetite.

junkit_meisze_casual_011.JPG

Till then, enjoy the pics and have a fantabulous week ahead!
