Hi people! Yes, it’s been a long time since I last updated my blog. Part of the reason being my busy schedule with work. It seems that my busy schedule would not end anytime soon. Recently, I have been busy preparing for my MPA qualification.

I have been accredited with an Associateship (AMPA) in the wedding category from the Master Photographers Association, UK. An associateship is awarded to photographers who demonstrate a great understanding of technique, light, composition, creativity and finesse in the art of professional photography. This has been the most grueling experience for me from start to finish. It was a very last minute decision but it was all worthwhile.

It was a great experience and I am truly blessed with the people that I’ve met along the way during my preparation. I’d like to thank Ryan Wong for his invaluable advice and for spending countless hours (occasionally up to wee hours in the morning) coaching me on my final panel. I would not have done it without him. My esteemed judges for your critical and constructive feedback on my panel. I would definitely take it all in and start improving on those areas. My lovely couples because without you, I would not have any images to submit! Thanks for your confidence in choosing me as your preferred photographer.

I would also like to thank all my friends and colleagues who supported me throughout my grading process, Alicia Koh for running around town with me to get my panels completed, Stephen Loh (thanks for the coffee that helped me calm my nerves), Michael Chan (for waking up early and being there for my judging ), Chris Woon, Chris Lim, Agnes Tjan, Jonathan Ho, Jonathan Chan, Gerald Goh and the rest who gave physical support on that day. It was indeed a nerve wrecking experience! Not forgetting Edwin Tan, Jon Low, Andy Chin and the rest on twitter for your morale support. To my wonderful wife for her patience and support, I love you! What an absolute joy it is to shoot a pre-wedding in Melbourne! The weather was cold and windy but that also means I won’t be sweating like crazy like I normally would in tropical Singapore! The weather was kind to us because it was reported to rain for the most parts of the weekends but when it came to the time of the pre-wedding session, it was bright and sunny with no rain clouds in sight. The heavens were upon us! Jun Kit and I were college mates back in the day but we sort of lost contact. But thanks to the wonders of the Internet, Friendster and Facebook, we managed to keep in contact. This has been months in planning and thanks to my lovely clients, they’ve arranged everything for us from the moment we left Singapore to the time we started shooting. The schedule and venues were all planned, prepared and I didn’t have to worry one bit. Oooh, how I love my clients! So enjoy the photos from the day shots that we took that day, more to come later!

First up, shots taken from the Parliament building. A famous stop for weddings and pre-weddings alike. I think I saw like another 3-4 wedding couples that day. This place is packed with tourist. I’m glad I manage to take a few shots here minus the crowd.

Melbourne City is famous for their tram rides and yellow cab taxis like NY. Just before we left the parliament, I manage to capture both in the same shot.

Melbourne is filled with graffiti walls. What’s a pre-wedding in Melbourne if you don’t pay a visit to these famous locations?

As promised, here is the first installment of a two-part series of Ban Yew & Esther’s Pre-Wedding shoot last weekend. It was indeed a very beautiful day at the Marina Barrage, although the sky was gloomy and it rained for most part of the afternoon. But things took a turn right before we started and thank God, the sky was just magnificent.

If you’ve never been to the Marina Barrage on weekends, you probably won’t know that this place is like a people magnet. You’ll see families, lovebirds, teenagers and foreigners enjoying the cool breeze and the scenic view of Singapore. It was rather hard to shoot when you have onlookers and people just walking in front of the camera now and then. Nonetheless, we came back with awesome photos and we just love them! Most of the shots were taken right off camera with very minimal post processing.

Melvin and Andrew were my tag-along buddies that day. It’s great when you have people helping you carry the video light, occasionally taking a few beautiful shots of the couple and giving creative ideas. I think we all learnt a lot that day and Ban Yew and Esther would be proud. Ok, enough said, on to the photos… here is the first part of the series. Do check back tomorrow for more!

You probably have seen this from the previous post, but I just love the silhouette. This was taken right off the camera with no post processing. Power of the 5D Mark II. Woot!

Last weekend, I had a pre-wedding shoot at one of Singapore’s latest attractions, The Marina Barrage. Ban Yew was my schoolmate back in the day. I’ll also be covering Ban Yew and Esther’s wedding in June.

In the morning, it was really cloudy and it rained most of the afternoon. I was praying that the weather would change, despite the fact that I was prepared for a wet day at Marina Barrage. I was telling my wife that each time I want to go out and shoot a pre-wedding, it is always raining. I’m a master in “dramatic skies” due to the rain clouds, I told her. It’s been a long time since I last shot a pre-wedding with a blue sky. But thank God, everything turned out the way it did because at 5pm, the sun was up and the sky was nothing but spectacular.

I was accompanied by two friends, Melvin and Andrew whom I met at Louis Pang’s Workshop in KL. They helped by giving ideas and snapped a few photos for Ban Yew and Esther.

I’m very excited as there are so many great shots that we got out of our little trip to Marina Barrage. Ban Yew and Esther were also very accommodating as we shot from 5pm to 9pm. However, I’m sure they would be very pleased with the shots we’ve got. The next update would be a two-part series of the pre-wedding session.
